My strange addiction

By Christopher Cook  / LifeAtStart.com Reporter

As most of you may know, I carry a gallon of water with me everywhere. I was addicted to caffeine, so I would drink pop excessively.

That is a very unhealthy habit and could lead to problems down the road. I am using my water to keep from drinking other things like pop and coffee. So far it has been totally amazing and I have successfully kept myself from drinking bad things.

No, I am not doing this as a trend or a challenge. I didn’t even know there were such things until I started doing this. I switched to water to improve my health now and later in life.

I’m not a fish. I’m a human that enjoys H2O, and I don’t plan on changing.

Your body needs water in order to function properly and without enough of it your body will function improperly.

There is such a thing as over-hydrating, which could cause serious damage to your body by drinking so much that it lowers the level of salt in your blood and could even cause comas, but one gallon a day is definitely not going to do that. Also, I drink just as much liquids as any other normal person. I just drink water instead of pop so I don’t go to the bathroom more than anyone else.

There is such a thing as water weight, but that is only if you are drinking too much water to harm your body, but this is caused by drinking water when you are hungry instead of eating.

If I replace all of my daily sugary drinks with water I will not gain weight. I will probably lose weight from doing this.

My missing father

0

By Rayne Wilcox / LifeAtStart.com Reporter

Children deserve to grow up under the care of two parents, but unfortunately not all children are fortunate.

Growing up, I had my mom and my three older brothers and saw my dad three times out of the year. We were suppose to be together on holidays and weekends, but he was at the bar instead.

When I was around 10 years old, my dad and his girlfriend at the time were talking about going to the fair in Findlay. I was excited, because I thought my dad was going to spend time with me for the first time in what seemed like forever.

My dad ended up dropping me off at my grandma and grandpa’s house and took his girlfriend to the fair without me. This would be one of many times that he did so. Thanks dad, you let me down once again.

I am now 17 years old, I haven’t seen my dad since February and he hasn’t answered my calls or text messages in what feels like forever, but it’s only been five weeks and I’m the one who’s paying the price for caring too much.

I owe everything to my grandpa who was there for me at my brother’s funeral, clothed me on the weekends I was there, and for yelling at my dad when he didn’t take care of me. Sadly, even after my grandpa’s death my dad still hasn’t learned.

My stepdad stepped into my life when I was 6 years old. I owe a lot to this man for taking the role of being the father figure in my life. He annoys me to the point of going insane, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It hasn’t been all bad, and I have been fortunate to have strong male role models in my life.

I know that there are some kids out there who are in the same boat with their father, but don’t think that it is your fault. It took me all the way up until now to finally realize that it wasn’t anything that I did to make him leave. This was all on him. The same goes for you.

I always thought that it was something  I’ve did to make him do what he does, but as I got older I realized that it has nothing to do with me. My dad has always been this way and there is nothing that I could do to change him.

I can’t help that he likes hanging out with his friends and drink beer more than being with his only child. I hope one day my dad will come to his senses and be a father, but until then I’ll stop wasting my energy on someone who doesn’t care.

Why puppies make the best pet

0

By Jocelyn Hennessey / LifeAtStart.com Reporter

Over the summer, I met the canine of my dreams.

I was asked to take on responsibility of pet ownership of Payton. He is a gray and white schnauzer who is very curious, cuddly, and cute. Payton was a rescue dog. Before I got him he was in a home where he was kicked around, kept in a cage, and not loved.

But, I love him and it is safe to say that we have both made a big impact on each other’s lives.

Puppies are better than people in many ways.

For starters, they do not give you attitude. Puppies can’t talk, therefore, they can not annoy you. Another reason is they give you unconditional love. Whether you scold them or don’t pay any attention to them, they always make their way into your heart.

Pups can make your day 10 times better just by looking at them. They give a little head nod and so many kisses. They don’t understand anything you say yet can make you feel better when you’re down. Puppies know when you’re stressed, angry, or sad. They comfort you any way they can and it helps a lot.

Puppies will never deny a treat. “Treat” is the only word they hear most of the time and will do anything for one. Often times they deserve one for just being cute. This is why puppies overrule any pet.

Make it or break it

By Rayne Wilcox  / LifeAtStart.com Reporter

Last school year, LifeAtStart.com had five out of 20 students write articles for the school’s website. Some started writing them, then they got critiqued once, felt they were no good, and took an F for the academic school year.

In the 2016-2017 school year, there are a lot of new faces and so far everyone in the class turned in their first assignment, biographies. Believe it or not, that is more than last year where only six people turned them in.

I would like to think it would be this way for the rest of the school year, but hope is for suckers and since I don’t have the best luck, I won’t say “This is going to be a great year for the website.” But I truly hope it will be.

This could be an amazing year, but it all comes down to how many people participate. This is a place where you can voice your opinions and not be judged for them. You can’t get that anywhere else, so why not take advantage of it?

I am ecstatic to be back writing and being a co-editor for this amazing website. This was my favorite class last school year and I am positive that it will be my favorite one this year as well.

I urge my classmates to write, write your thoughts and what you feel . Take advantage of this opportunity.
