Moving closer to virtual realities

0

By Tori St. Clair /LifeAtStart.com reporter

It’s no secret that social media is taking over our lives.

In this day and age we go online for everything from news to shopping, even everyday conversation. Most of these websites we visit encourage your interaction from social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

How many hours do you waste on browsing through unnecessary things on social media? A lot of hours that could be used for something more useful. The average smartphone user checks Facebook 14 times every day, and over 500 million tweets are posted every day.

Overuse of social media might lead us to having a future with almost no real conversations. Some would say it’s easier to talk hiding behind our profiles, as we can create an image of ourself that has nothing to do with the reality.

I won’t deny the fact that social media networks do help with keeping in touch with those far away or learning something new, but we are escaping realities and diving deeper into the virtual realities.

Sienna’s anxiety relievers

0

By Sienna Bester / LifeatStart.com Reporter

Anxiety is something that many people struggle with, especially in school.

People are always trying to find ways to relieve it, so here is a list of ways to reduce anxiety:

  • Take a deep breath. The first thing you do is take a deep breath when you get anxious. Try inhaling and exhaling slowly.
  • Get enough sleep. Inconsistent sleep can affect you physically and mentally. Try to sleep for at least seven to nine hours at night.
  • Eat right. Usually when people have anxiety their appetite might change, or they might crave certain foods. Try eating food that contains nutrients such as vitamin B. For example a lot of seafood has vitamin B.
  • Meditate. A number of recent studies highlight the positive effects of meditation on anxiety, mood, and stress symptoms.
  • Play around. Offer to take a neighbor’s dog out for a walk, or babysit for an afternoon to take your mind off of things.
  • Be silent. Plan for a time when you can completely disconnect. That means no TV, no phone, no computer, nothing. Just be silent.

For me taking a deep breath helps me when I’m feeling anxious.

‘Stoney’ Album Review

0

By Joseph Rowan /LifeAtStart.com Reporter

Post Malone is a white rapper out of Texas who has been making music for around 3 years.

Recently he has released his first full length studio album, Stoney. His album was a huge surprise to me. I liked the 3 singles he released 2 years prior to the album releasing, but I did not like his mixtape August 26th.

Post Malone has a certain style when it comes to rapping and he captured that when he released Stoney.  Post Malone’s music is very catchy and incorporates many different styles of music, the last song on the album is called Feeling Whitney and is an acoustic indie song.

I thoroughly enjoyed Stoney by Post Malone and can say it is one of my favorite rap albums of 2016, I even bought the CD for it. Post uses a lot of trap inspired beats produced by Pharrell and they are mixed very nicely. Trap inspired beats are beats that use a lot of sounds such as: hi-hats, snares, and 808’s.

Although Post Malone doesn’t have the best lyrics, he definitely talks about things that are important to him: music, women, his girlfriend, and alcohol. I feel Post Malone is a rapper that anyone can listen to and enjoy.

If I had to rate Stoney by Post Malone I would give it an 8.5/10. What would you rate it?

Muslim Ban?

Chris counters Rayne’s previous article about President Trump’s ‘Muslim Ban’

By Christopher Cook  / LifeAtStart.com Reporter

On January 27, 2017 President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order temporarily blocking travel from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen. The suspension lasts 120 days or approximately 4 months. This ban is to keep out “those who do not support the Constitution, or those who would place violent ideologies over American law”.

While these countries are populated with a majority of Muslims they do not make up most of the world’s Muslim population. In fact all these countries together consist of about 12% of the world’s Muslim population.

People are taking this out of control by calling Trump a racist for signing this order. To further put these claims to rest we need to look at the Obama Administration. In December 2015 these exact seven countries were on an executive order signed by President Obama preventing the travel to America from these countries without a Visa. The only difference between these orders is President Trump’s order bans all travel, visa included.
