To vs. too vs. two

0

By Kasey Brown / LifeatStart.com Reporter

Often people misuse the words to, too, and two.

This is because they are homophones, words that sound the same but have different meanings and have different spellings. If you don’t know how to use them correctly, here’s a guide to using them.

To is used as a preposition before a noun or as an infinitive before a verb.
Example before the noun: Please take me to the dance.

Example as an infinitive: We are going to sing at the party.

Too is used as a synonym for also or to indicate excessiveness before a verb.
Example to indicate excessiveness: The mall is too crowded

Example as a synonym for also: I want to go to the mall too.

Two is how you spell out the number 2.
Ex. There are two shoes in a pair.

Was Jesus an alien?

0

By Tori St.Clair / LifeAtStart.com Reporter

I’ve written an article about aliens before, but this one takes it a little farther.

Minister Barry Downing argues that the events depicted in the Bible are evidence of extraterrestrial activity that was misinterpreted by early humans. He even goes as far as to say Jesus was an alien.

I don’t think this idea is all that crazy. Why wouldn’t Jesus be an alien?

A lot of parts of his story and the Bible seem a little extraterrestrial if you think about it. The fact that Mary was impregnated while being a virgin, how her baby could perform miracles, and how in the Bible Jesus claims he is literally not of this world.

Many artists in the Middle Age depicted very odd scenes of his life through their paintings, suggesting a possible connection with extraterrestrial technology. There are hundreds of paintings from this time period showing UFO type vehicles. In 1710, Gelder painted a large object hovering over Jesus’s baptism scene, which I think is the most compelling piece of evidence for this theory.

Unfortunately there is no actual proof to verify any of Downing’s claims about Jesus being an alien to be true, and a big debate is whether biblical accounts should be taken as literal fact or metaphors. As our knowledge of the universe continues to expand, our questions concerning the worlds largest religion can be expected to grow too.

If you can’t beat them, join them

By Me’Lyea Burton / LifeAtStart.com Reporter

There have been many articles written about annoying couples in the hallways and, for the most part, I agreed. I hated seeing them in the hallway, that was, until I joined the club of annoying couples.

Yes, many couples show affection with their significant others in the hallways because, in most cases, that’s the only chance they get to see them. There are many different kinds of annoying couples, but maybe there are reasons they’re so annoying, such as:

• The couples who stop in the middle of the hallway to show affection: quite aggravating, but all you have to do is walk around them.

• The couples who stop and take pictures (that would be my S.O. and I): Those pictures are memories and are most likely posted on social media to show their appreciation for one another.

• The couples who argue in the hallways: more than likely are taking advantage of the little time they have to talk things out in person rather than via text message.

• The couples who block the classroom door because they’re kissing: the gentleman is more than likely showing chivalry by making sure his lady has arrived to class safely and on time.

These may be some annoying reasons as to why couples are so annoying, but it’s only annoying until you join the club.
