A flawed masterpiece

Some people say their favorite movie is perfect and nothing is wrong with it, but I disagree when concerning my favorite movie “Blade Runner” by Ridley Scott. It’s a cyberpunk movie, but it has bits of film noir. This film has many editions; the theatrical Edition, the director’s cut, and the Final Cut. I’m can I talk about the Final Cut because it’s What Ridley Scott originally envisioned Blade Runner to be.

This film is set in LA, during the far off future of 2019. It stars Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, who is an ex Blade Runner. A Blade Runner is a sort of cop who hunts downs and killed highly-advanced Androids called Replicants. They hunt them down because their ban on Earth after they had a revolt against their masters. Decker gets called by his ex boss to hunt down these Replicants who just came on to Earth. He soon finds out they came back because they only have a five year lifespan and they’re trying to get to their creator to make them live longer.

This movie has many pros and cons.

First the pros:

  • The world building in this movie is one of the best in the world.
  • The acting is very believable and how character express their emotions is phenomenal.
  • The visuals, it’s one of best visually aesthetic during the early the 1980s.

Then the cons:

  • The pacing, in a few scenes, lasts way too long like the investigation.
  • The character Sebastian, who is super annoying, they didn’t even put him in the original cut.

This is why I call it a flawed masterpiece.

Cats get a bad rep

The stigma around around cats has always been that they don’t care about their owners or just hate things in general. Here’s why that’s not completely true.

Cats are always compared to dogs. It’s just what people do. Some say cats can’t do tricks, or protect your house etc. Those are traits mainly of dogs. Cats have completely different abilities and personalities. They are self sufficient yet love interaction. The problem people have is that they can be pet “too much” which is when they get mean.

Cats are animals for people who like to stay calm, quiet and prefer a smaller animal who is still a good companion. People just compare them to dogs too often and become biased which is where the awful attitude comes from.

My cats Ninja and Tinsel are very sweet, but have very different personalities. Tinsel is very old and hides away, while Ninja is wild and can keep up with the fast paced nature of my house. I also have two dogs but I would never compare them to my cats.

Appreciate this school

Roy C. Start High School, there’s more to it than what meets the eye. This school means something to some people including me. Statistics, statements, comments, and opinions may say this school sucks, but could we not judge a book by its cover? What matters is what goes on inside of the school. Yes, there may be a few rough edges and bumps, but just look beyond that.

I’m a sophomore at Start High School. I plan to play sports, I have a few friends, my grades are great, I’m cool with a couple staff members including the principal, Edward Perozek. I’m not the best student, but the people there know me well. The staff know what I strive for, who I really am, and what I been through. They will help and shape me into a better person and be ready for the world. There’s many more students like me, but it depends on each individual to accept the help.

The faculty care about us by having pep rallies, games, events, and even drills. They want the best for us, yet there’s some of us that take advantage or don’t apply ourselves. We are the next generation and we are failing miserably. We should appreciate this school and its staff more because like we’ve been told multiple times, they don’t have to do squat for us, as long as they get paid for teaching.

Now let’s be honest, sometimes it’s not the student, it could be the teacher. Some of the teachers at Start have issues, but who doesn’t? In any shape, does it justify the way you teach, act towards a student, and whatnot. One reason why a student may act disrespectfully is because the teacher provoked them. Some teachers have to understand that their personal lives shouldn’t get mixed up with their professional lives.

Hopefully, the students, faculty and staff will find a common ground. The students figuring out what they have to do and willing to do it and the faculty and staff being mature, professional and helpful, will led to Start being a better place.

A new chapter begins

As the school year comes to a close, so does my time being in Journalism. I began to come to journalism when I was a Sophomore and ever since then, I have taken it up until my very last year of high school.
Being the editor of LifeAtStart has been an honor and I am so grateful for my teacher, Mrs. Mary Mandley. This wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for her helping me become a better writer. It’s been a privilege to work on the website for three years.
Through every obstacle that was thrown at us, when the website was down and we couldn’t edit any articles, or when Dave Murray came to the classroom every Wednesday, we managed to push on through it.
I’m going to miss being a part of this class. It’s my all time favorite and I know I will tell my friends in the present and future about my time in Mrs.Mandley’s Journalism class.
