Road to Independence

Many adolescents crave independence, this includes driving. When picturing a young adult behind the wheel it can be traumatizing or relieving depending on who’s in the driver’s seat. Even though getting a teenager a driver’s licence is sometimes risky it’s important. A young adult shouldn’t depend on a adult for transportation everywhere. Giving a teen a driver’s license means they can count on the responsibility to drive them selves to and from school and even work. This can also benefit the family during emergencies, last minute events, etc.

I don’t have a license and it’s definitely a struggle between getting to work and school. I get complaints on the drive or a ride isn’t available. My family plans around my schedule so if a last minute call in occurs its a guessing game on if I can show up. I believe teens should be encouraged to get their license due to the inconveniences without it.

Generation Disaster

My grandparents and parents generations grew up having common courtesy. People used to show respect to others no matter their age using phrases such as please and thank you, referring to others as “ma’am” and “sir”, and offering help without expecting anything in return.

This generation lacks all of those qualities. Teenagers talk to their parents and teachers like they are the children. Instead of asking for permission to do something they just tell them what they want to do. The lack of respect to people in their own age group is just as bad, they refer to each other using derogatory words.

The entitlement issues are horrible too. Kids get so much handed to them without working for it and don’t appreciate any of it for example, getting participation awards. They expect their parents and others to break their backs to do things they could most likely do for themselves. I’m ashamed to even say that I’m a part of this generation. I look around at all these other teenagers and just think about all the things that they say and do and I’m just shocked at the way they act, at the way they think, and the way they carry themselves.

I’m just convinced that I was born in the wrong generation. I can’t even begin to wrap my head around the way this generation operates. Can we as a generation just try and actually change? There’s no reason why kids and teenagers should be acting in the crazy and intolerable way that they do. Our ancestors would be disappointed.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

There are many different perspectives on makeup. A lot of people use makeup for self-expression, and others to hide insecurities. People make the assumption that makeup is a way to change who you are and how you look but, for me it’s a way to get away and for fun.

People in my study hall had different opinions about makeup. When I asked Zae Henderson what she thought about makeup she said,”It’s uncalled for.”However Josie Sanchez thinks “It’s a good way to show self-expression even if you’re not the best at executing makeup application techniques.”

People that don’t wear makeup are usually the ones that always have something bad to say about those who do. I never understood why they have so much to say about people wearing makeup. Makeup enhances the beauty in people.

Eyes Opened for Burma

Burma has never been a civil place. A place for good people to lead good lives. A place were everyone could be who they wanted to be without the fear of being displaced or feeling unwanted. This needs to change. Everyone deserves a fair chance in this world. No matter who you are, or what you believe, you deserve to live.

Rohingya Burma is located near China and India. This country was ruled by a Buddhist Army. Muslims represented about 10% of the population and were subjected to extermination and displacement.

In 1784 a Buddhist king feared the spread of the Islamic belief in his region, and from then on he persecuted the Muslims. Muslim children were burned, people were killed and tortured just because of their belief system. Some tried to escape and move to different countries, but nobody would take them in. Therefore they were forced to die by murder or starvation.

On September 8th, 2017 Burma was attacked. It was estimated that over 400 people have been killed in the attacks and over a quarter of a million Muslims have fled across the boarder to Bangladesh. Since August 25th there have been allegations of extreme human right abuse in Burma. There have been violent attacks and mass populated villages have been burned down. Even rivers in Burma are filled with blood and horror. A man by the name of Zahir Ahmed said he made a panicked escape during one of the attacked and hid. There by the river, he watched his family live their final moments.

As Americans we often take our religious freedom for granted. We tend to forget that there are other countries and people and this world that are not as privileged as us. For example, people in Burma are being killed for their beliefs and the majority of the people in America do not seem to notice. It pains me to hear of these people being killed just because of their beliefs. I hope after reading this your eyes are opened to just how lucky we are.
