Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that affects a women’s hormone levels. It can cause hair growth, acne, irregular menstrual cycles, and infertility. It can also cause cysts in the ovaries.

When I first found out that I had PCOS I was kind of confused because I never heard anything about it. My doctor didn’t really tell me a whole lot about it she just said I fit the criteria to have it and she instantly put me on birth control. As time went on I started to wonder more about it. I read on the internet that it could cause infertility. I instantly started to worry. Would I be able to have my own family someday? I’m still young and I maybe shouldn’t be too stressed about having kids, but it’s still something I would want to know about for the future.

I’ve always jokingly said “I’m not having kids” but now, the fact that I ever said that makes me incredibly sad. It breaks my heart to know there’s a possibility that I can’t start a family of my own someday. Sure, there’s adoption and I would love to do that, but I would also love to be able to have some of my own. Even if I could just have one, I wouldn’t be upset. To all the women with PCOS: I promise you are not alone. I pray everyone with this condition can start the families they’ve always wanted.

Remembering Man-Man

This world has come to something that a lot of people didn’t think it would turn out to be. There is far too much violence in this generation that ranges from fighting on social media, fist fights, arguments, and gun violence. It’s getting out of control I think our generation needs to do something before it gets any worse than it is.

Roy C. has lost a family member on January 19th, Valjon “Man-Man” Foster. He was a great person and his life got cut short all because he was trying to break up a fight and some 16 year old kid shot him and took his life away. Man-Man was not only a great athlete, or a great person, he was a great student. He was a freshman at the University of Toledo on an academic scholarship. It’s sad to see someone I called my big brother pass away.

He honestly was a role model not just to me, but to many. I played football with Valjon for three years. He was always the person I would talk to about bettering myself and he always pushed me and others to excel. For these things, we will never forget you Man-Man.

Got choice?

Abortion has been the topic of discussion ever since the laws in Ohio for abortion has changed. Now in Ohio, if there is a fetal heartbeat you cannot have an abortion. I find a lot wrong with this new law.

First, there’s rape. If a woman is raped and happens to become pregnant but has no idea she’s pregnant, she will forever be stuck with the kid she never consented to have and isn’t prepared at all to be a parent. The mother wouldn’t have food on the table every night and the kid won’t have nice clothes because the mother doesn’t have money because she just wasn’t prepared.

I believe it should be the woman’s choice if she wants to have an abortion and the main reason the abortion laws have changed in my opinion is because of religion. For me personally, I don’t go by any religion, therefore if I was to end up pregnant at 17 I would want an abortion. However, for someone who is religious, they may not believe in abortion which is fine because they can choose not to have one and raise their child. Religion shouldn’t play a part in abortion, I believe it should be the women’s choice whether she wants an abortion. Now, in future years there will be a bigger percentage of lower class citizens because of all of the unprepared parents.

The balancing act

Balancing home life, school, dance, work, and church is hectic. I am usually busy and I don’t have a lot of leisure time. My schedule is filled, with Monday and Friday being my only days off. When I am not at school, I am working on Saturdays, going to dance on Tuesdays and Thursdays, going to church on Sundays and Youth group on Wednesdays.

Being busy almost all the time also cuts into my family time. I do not see my family as much as I did before I got a job and started going to church, and I am not really able to hang out with friends because my free time is slim. When I am not working, dancing, or going to church, I try to spend time with my family as much as possible since as soon as the week starts my schedule cuts off my family time.

Even though my schedule is crazy, I find time to hang out with friends and family. I’m working towards getting my driver’s license so that it would be easier to connect all parts of my life. Hopefully one day, I can take a day off.
