What we may be eating in 2050

As time goes by, the population continues to grow. In the year 2050 the population is expected to be about 9 billion. Which means more and more of our natural resources will be scarce like land and water. So we won’t be able to eat what we want. It will be less meat and more bugs. The most commonly eaten bugs by humans are beetles, caterpillars, bees, wasps and ants.

Even though bugs are creepy and disgusting they are actually really healthy for you. Insects contain high fat, protein, vitamin, fiber and mineral content that is often comparable to fish or livestock. Another good thing about insects is that they require less land and water than farmed animals and reproduce more quickly.

We have all eaten bugs or drank them whether you know it or not. If you check the FDA handbook, you can see just how many unwanted bugs you could be eating or drinking on an everyday basis especially from fast food. If you have ever cooked with curry powder you should know it can contain 100 insect fragments head, body, and legs. The list goes on and on. This is very interesting to me because I cook a lot and do not expect to be cooking with insects in the near future.

Final straw

“There’s nothing worse than a man that can be everything to everybody else except a father to their own child.” -Unknown

Dear Dad, this is my second and last letter to you. As I lay in bed, writing this letter to you, and crying, I don’t know what to say. Last year I wrote you something telling you how I felt about our estranged relationship and I even sent it to you. What did you do about it? Nothing.

I don’t know if you know this, but I’m in a relationship now. I told you that but I have yet to get a response so I don’t know if you’ve received it or just plain out ignored me. I was going to call grandpa after it happened only to remember that the only father figure in my life was no longer here with me.

He would have asked me so many questions about him, something a dad is supposed to do. I’m trying to remember the advice he would give me about boys but right now I cannot remember anything and it really hurts, but the point is, he would have given me advice and you wouldn’t. You’ve never tried talking to me about my life.

I don’t know if the tears falling from my eyes are angry or sad. I thought I was done being upset about you. I’m 18 years old and I’m a senior this year. I should be done being sad about this, but I want you to see me go across that stage to receive my diploma. I want you to attend my graduation party and be a part of the biggest year of my life and I want you to be proud of me ,but right now I’m done.

I don’t want you to be a part of my life anymore. I am done feeling this way about you. I shouldn’t have to beg you, my own father, to have a relationship with me. I’m done wasting my time on someone who doesn’t care. I hope you change your ways so you can make someone happy, but as for me, this is the final straw.

Goodbye, Terry.

Sincerely, Rayne

Fenty is plenty

On picture day this year as hectic as it was I was able to talk to one of my teachers, Ms. Natalie Adamski, about one of my favorite subjects, makeup. She had brought up one of the newer brands, Fenty Beauty by the pop artist Rihanna. She had talked about the lip gloss and foundation she had purchased and about how amazing it was. I’d have to agree with her comment on how flawless her skin looked due to her foundation. After our conversation I was intrigued to learn more about the brand.

My first stop was my Holy Grail, Sephora. As I walked into the store I was immediately drawn to the counter with all of her products. The packaging is an all-white and glossy. Most products come in a hexagon shaped package. The brushes are magnetic and are able to stick to the highlighters and blotting powder.

Right off the bat I noticed the array of foundations available. The brand carries up to 40 shades of foundation which is extremely impressive. Rumor is that Rihanna is working on releasing even more shades to cater to more skin tones. At the moment she has six powder highlighters available and ten stick highlights. There are also a few brushes and a beauty blender that are for sale.

After getting my own opinion on the products I decided to take to YouTube and social media to hear others’ opinions. Two videos especially caught my attention, one being a video of a girl who has the rare disease of albinism who tested out one of Rihanna’s foundations. She tested out shade 110 which isn’t even the lightest shade available. She raved about how perfectly the foundation blended with the skin on her face and neck without any hints of orange. After hearing how wonderful the lighter shades were I decided to check into the darker shades. In the beauty community it’s difficult to find foundations that cater to darker skin tones so needless to say it was all the buzz when these shades were released. The same comments were made about the deeper shades and how well they blended and how nice they feel on the skin.

As the beauty community continues to grow more and more each day, it was a breath of fresh air to see someone cater to all skin tones. I can’t wait to see how the brand will grow and see what else Rihanna has up her sleeve.
