On picture day this year as hectic as it was I was able to talk to one of my teachers, Ms. Natalie Adamski, about one of my favorite subjects, makeup. She had brought up one of the newer brands, Fenty Beauty by the pop artist Rihanna. She had talked about the lip gloss and foundation she had purchased and about how amazing it was. I’d have to agree with her comment on how flawless her skin looked due to her foundation. After our conversation I was intrigued to learn more about the brand.

My first stop was my Holy Grail, Sephora. As I walked into the store I was immediately drawn to the counter with all of her products. The packaging is an all-white and glossy. Most products come in a hexagon shaped package. The brushes are magnetic and are able to stick to the highlighters and blotting powder.

Right off the bat I noticed the array of foundations available. The brand carries up to 40 shades of foundation which is extremely impressive. Rumor is that Rihanna is working on releasing even more shades to cater to more skin tones. At the moment she has six powder highlighters available and ten stick highlights. There are also a few brushes and a beauty blender that are for sale.

After getting my own opinion on the products I decided to take to YouTube and social media to hear others’ opinions. Two videos especially caught my attention, one being a video of a girl who has the rare disease of albinism who tested out one of Rihanna’s foundations. She tested out shade 110 which isn’t even the lightest shade available. She raved about how perfectly the foundation blended with the skin on her face and neck without any hints of orange. After hearing how wonderful the lighter shades were I decided to check into the darker shades. In the beauty community it’s difficult to find foundations that cater to darker skin tones so needless to say it was all the buzz when these shades were released. The same comments were made about the deeper shades and how well they blended and how nice they feel on the skin.

As the beauty community continues to grow more and more each day, it was a breath of fresh air to see someone cater to all skin tones. I can’t wait to see how the brand will grow and see what else Rihanna has up her sleeve.
