Stop the violence

School shootings is something that is way too common in this era. It’s a very real and scary thing that I just don’t think is being taken seriously. People joke about it on social media like lives weren’t taken and people weren’t mentally scarred. Memes get posted instead of honorary messages, people turn the whole situation over to race when it has nothing to do with that, people speak nonsense about the shooter being a good person instead of realizing that a good person never would have pulled out a gun and killed innocent people.

I feel so sorry for all the lives taken and all the families broken due to someone being so heartless. This issue needs to be resolved. Kids shouldn’t be afraid of going to school and having to wonder if it’s going to be their last day. When did our world become so cruel? I can only hope and pray that no more innocent lives are taken.

Guns for Hands

After the tragedy that happened in Florida earlier this month, many people have taken to the streets. Some claim that guns laws  now make it too easy to purchase a firearm; however, many other people claim that our laws are just fine and that guns aren’t the problem, it’s the people operating them. I believe that both sides have valid points; however, there are also many flaws.

Many people believe that stricter gun laws will prevent these deadly weapons from ending up in the hands of criminals. While we all wish this was true, it is simply not possible. There are already thousands of firearms out on the streets. Some legal, some not. If someone really wanted to get their hands on one, they will. On top of this, the United States in the leading country in production of guns. There are 88.8 guns for every 100 residents in the United States. In 2014, Remington Firearms produced over 1.47 million guns.

Have you ever heard this saying before? “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” This is absolutely true. In order for a gun to kill someone or something, it must be handled by a human being. However, this doesn’t justify the fact that on an average day, 96 Americans are killed due to such weapons. Even though guns don’t actually kill people alone, they make it way to easy. During the Florida shooting, the suspect was able to kill 17 people in about 3 minutes and injure many more.

It’s unfortunate that we live in a world where we must witness such tragedies. And what’s even worse is that instead of coming together as a nation to fix these problems, we blame and point fingers at each other. These terrible events are going to constantly happen over and over again until we unite as one to stop it.

Feelings on paper

Within these last few months I’ve grown quite obsessed with poem books. From “Milk and Honey” by Rupi Kaur to “Whiskey Words & a Shovel” by R.H Sin. Some of the poems within the books put my exact feelings on a page. Who knew a ten word poem could make you feel so many emotions. Sadness, inspiration, nostalgia, contentment. There are some that I can’t really relate to but I still read them & think of those who could relate.

I’ve always been drawn to things that could explain my feelings better than I could. These books do that. They make me relive my past and imagine my future. They make me want to fall in love but they also make me want to avoid ever having to give someone a piece of my heart.

As you flip through each page you’ll learn more and more about yourself. You’ll learn about feelings you never even realize you had. You’ll feel inspired to find love within yourself instead of someone who maybe doesn’t deserve your time. These books are amazing and I hope everyone loves them just as much as I do.
“my brown skin
will not be a burden
my brown skin
will not be my enemy
i love me
regardless of their hate” -R.H Sin from “Whiskey Words & a Shovel volume 1”

What’s your opinion?

I would like to talk to you about personal opinions. Everybody always figures they can speak on your opinion. Most people don’t think about it as territory, your opinion corresponds with who you are and how you feel about certain things.

Everyone has a right to an opinion but when many people try to state an opinion and others argue, most likely because they don’t agree. If I say I think Android is better than iPhone that is just how I feel, you can agree, say okay, or ask why, but please just don’t argue because it’s how I feel.
