Fight on

In two years I plan on joining the military. I am looking forward to serving my country but there are a lot of unknowns that make me anxious.

Service members are beginning to take their own lives in shockingly higher numbers than in the past. The branch most affected is the Army. In the year of 2012, the Army’s suicide rate sky rocketed at 29 suicides per 10,000 people. That’s more than twice the national population’s 12 suicides per 10,000 people. In that year the service mourned 165 suicides, about one death every 2.2 days.

Serving in the military brings unique challenges, physically and mentally. One example is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. Symptoms of PTSD include hostile behavior, flashbacks of trauma, severe anxiety, loneliness, nightmares, and unwanted thoughts. These side effects may be enough to make a military member take their own life.

We need to create awareness of this problem and offer our service members the support they need to keep going. This is not an issue to take lightly. These are our own people taking their lives because of the unbearable stress and trauma they go through. The least we can do is create awareness.

In spite of all this, I am still looking forward to serving in the military and making my country proud.

Fake news

Social media has a huge impact in all of our everyday lives; I have taken interest on how we engage with what’s going on in the world through our internet resources. It should be common sense that everything on the internet isn’t reliable but  many people believe what they are seeing and reading on the internet, this is dangerous and has caused many problems and conflicts. If we all aren’t aware of this we could get ourselves into some trouble.

A large number of the United States population is participating in the use of social media. This is dangerous because the younger generation is being manipulated into believing what they see and hear through online sources without looking for the facts first. People are acting on things they don’t have much knowledge about and this becomes an issue when false news about our government or the president is being taken as factual.

I think all false websites should be banned from the United States, because of all the damage it has caused like the news of there being a deadly disease being spread in a small town located in the US back in 2016. We have the opportunity to stop it before it gets out of hand.

Iphone

On September 12, 2017 Apple will be releasing the new iPhone 8. There will be three iPhones coming out: iPhone X, 8 and 8 plus. The reason why it is called iPhone X is because it is the 10th anniversary of the 10th iPhone. It comes with the iOS 11 update with dark mode which iPhone users have been waiting for. Also there is a new thing added called Face ID which is similar to Touch ID and there will be a new phone color.

There was a lot of different rumors about what the new iPhone 8 looked like. The reason behind this is that there was an old Apple employee who sent out the link to the phone. He had got fired for exposing their future project. Shortly after finding that out, Apple started sending out links to their new phone.

A lot of people like to ask what is the difference between the 7 and the 8. The iPhone 8 has an edge-to-edge display, an vertical dual rear-facing camera, seems to be the first to have a wireless charging tech, and is all glass but still durable. The iPhone X will be the first iPhone that will cost more than $1,000. Also there is a new feature on it called Animoji to help take better selfies.

Personally, I think that Apple is overrated. Yes they do have a lot of different devices but I don’t get what the big deal is. Their prices are too high for an average person to pay and the phones always break easily. All of the new features that their adding isn’t really useful to me. If I owned Apple I would add features that are more useful people and I would make the prices reasonable. If you have any questions contact me at [email protected].

Education is essential

School is one of the most important things in a teenager’s life, even though it’s a lot of work. If you apply your abilities you may have the opportunities of earning a scholarship which is good for kids who can’t afford college on their own. With a good education you can get a successful career.

I’ve never really tried in school because I didn’t see the point. I missed many days, and didn’t study for tests. Once I got to high school I realized that if I want to reach my goals I would have to start caring about my grades and education.  My goal is to become a fashion designer, in order for that to happen I must have an associate’s or a bachelor’s degree.

Some kids think of school as a place to hang out with their friends, and others don’t even bother to go to class because they “weren’t feeling it.”

As Americans we take freedom of education for granted. If you want to have a good life then you have to start with a good education.
