Toxic love

An issue I’m seeing more and more of everyday are toxic relationships and friendships. The reason I’m choosing to write about this is because toxic relationships can take a major toll on ones mental health.

You can’t see mental heath issues so its easy to dismiss them, whereas a broken bone it is clear that you’re hurting. Toxic relationships and friendships don’t start that way, but they slowly manifest as you start to spend more time with them and by the time you identify the person to be toxic you feel as though you’re too invest to remove them from your life.

I feel like I try so hard to give people the benefit of the doubt and believe that certain people can change and I’m somehow always let down realizing they haven’t. I will always have love for the people who at some point meant the world to me, but I’m better off without them in my life.

Those who care, teach

What sets apart a good teacher from a bad teacher? Is it the way they interact with their students? Do they not give a lot of homework? Recently I have been thinking about this question. After giving it some thought, I decided to share my personal opinions on what makes a successful teacher.

For starters, good teachers cares about their students. They want their class to be successful and will go out of their way to make sure they accomplish this. Teachers can be caring in many ways:

  • They are willing to stay after school to help struggling students.
  • They teach at a reasonable pace.
  • They are at school majority of the time.

Have you ever had a teacher who is never at school and then tries to blame you when you don’t understand the material? I have and it makes it extremely difficult to pass the class. My freshman year, I had a teacher who would miss one to two times a week and it caused my grade to suffer. Teacher attendance is just as important as student attendance.

Finally, good teachers make sure that their students feel welcome in their classroom. If teachers are rude and disrespectful to their students, this is going to cause negativity in the classroom. Students won’t want to do their work and some may even skip the class all together. Whereas teachers who are kind and welcoming,  their classroom will tend to have a positive feeling. This in turn will make students want to do their work and be successful so they can get a good grade.

Throughout my school career I have had several teachers. I am thankful to say that majority of them were caring and wanted me to do my best. I have to give them credit because if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be as successful as I am today.

Gateway to infection

Most people have rewarded themselves at least once. In my case myself and many other girls get their nails done. For some they may get polish over their natural nails or opt to the traditional acrylic. For those who don’t know acrylics are fake nails covering your real nails often colored in your choice. It’s soothing and satisfying to watch your nails form from your imagination to your fingertips.

Unfortunately there are many risks behind getting acrylics that not all are educated on. For one, acrylics contain several chemicals that contribute to health risks, although the chemical methyl Methacrylate (MMA) was banned by FDA some nail salons still use it due to poor regulations in the industry. For those who don’t know MMA can cause eye and skin irritation, and even respiratory or neurological issues. Besides the chemicals there’s risks that hide within the tools that are not only used on you but other people. Without tools being sterilized between use you put yourself at risk of transmitting diseases like nail fungus, warts, Hepatitis B, and other bacterial infections are potentially life threatening and can be picked up by nail salons.

About 75% of salons in the US don’t follow protocol for disinfection. Instruments should be soaked around 20 minutes between clients but if it’s a busy day they might be taken out early leaving a gateway to infection.

After reading i hope you learned about the risk factors with getting your nails done and put them into consideration while you treating yourself could lead to a doctor treating you.

Getting a promotion at your job is a very great opportunity to most people. Some may think that it’s nothing but for others they take pride in their advancement because of how hard they’ve worked to get there.

I am a courtesy clerk at Kroger and we do a lot to keep the front end up and running. The managers watch and see who actually do their job and they’ve been watching me more lately. A lot of cashiers and the front end supervisor love me. They’ve always talked to me about this promotion because I’m great at my job and I already know a lot about being a cashier.

The front end supervisor was asking me if I wanted to be a cashier because she’s seen how much I approved there. She and I have  been talking about it. She finally told the manager about me and she is planning to have a meeting with me towards the end of February. Hearing that from her made me so happy because that’s all I’ve been waiting for. Pretty soon I’ll be Kroger’s newest cashier.
