September 10th marks National Suicide Prevention Awareness Day and the start of Suicide Prevention week.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death among people aged 25 to 34 and the third leading cause of death among people aged 15 to 24.

The reason why I am writing this article is to help spread awareness on this very important cause and to share some lifelines that are available if you or someone you know is in a crisis.

This is a very important cause for me, because I lost my brother to suicide in 2009. It was the worst day of my life and ever since then I have made sure to tell his story and to help as many people as possible. My family will never be the same.

Recently there was a rapper named Logic who came out with a song with the Suicide Prevention Lifeline as the title. He performed this song at the Video Music Awards with men and women who have attempted suicide or have lost someone to it. His performance made such an impact that the calls to the Suicide Prevention Lifeline increased by 50% after the first and second night of the awards show airing.

You are not alone in your fight and there is help out there. Even though I am not a trained counselor, I am always a message away if you ever need a friend.

The lifelines that are listed below are available 24/7. Don’t hesitate to reach out and get help if you need it.
